New and improved shredder
ReCoop’s team is currently working on designing and building a custom, heavy duty shredder that will be able to handle large 3D prints and large volumes of plastic at once.Previous solution
In order to make strong PLA sheets and molded stock with less air gaps and a more uniform internal structure the PLA scraps must be shredded into small pieces. For this purpose a paper shredder has been modified to fit the scraps and used to produce the shredded PLA we have been using for testing. A sheet steel hopper is also being constructed to make the shredding process easier and safer but is not shown as it has not been completed. To construct the PLA shredder the cover of a heavy duty paper shredder was cut back using a rotary tool in order to fit scraps thicker than a few sheets of paper.
